Bio: Xuan-Hieu Phan (Phan Xuan Hieu) was born and grew up in NgheAn, a province in the North-Central Vietnam. Right after high school (1997), he moved to Hanoi where he earned his B.S. (2001) and M.S. (2003) degrees, both in information technology and computer science from College of Technology (Coltech, now UET), Vietnam National University in Hanoi (VNUH). In late 2003, he moved to Japan to start pursuing his higher education. He obtained a Ph.D. degree in computer and information science in late 2006 from Graduate School of Information Science, Japan Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (JAIST). He was a JSPS postdoctoral fellow at Graduate School of Information Science (GSIS), Tohoku University from 2006 to 2008. He was also a research fellow at Centre for Health Informatics (CHI), University of New South Wales (UNSW), Sydney, Australia from 2008 to 2010.
